Welcome to the Colorado U.S. Route 6 Tourist Association
"The Land of Adventure"

Kenneth Oltjenburns, Executive Director
Kenneth Oltjenburns, Executive Director

I grew up on a wheat farm near Highway 6 in eastern Colorado. After attending Holyoke High School and getting a degree in Agricultural Engineering from Colorado State University, I worked in manufacturing design for a number of years. When my father retired in 1986, I returned to Holyoke to operate my family’s farm. This farm has been in the family since 1917 when my great grandfather purchased the land, including the farmstead where I grew up. Having an interest in the history of the area, I served as president of the Phillips County Historical Society for four years.

When Joe Hurley walked through Holyoke in 2004, I became interested in working to preserve our rich heritage along Route 6. Working with Mary Tomky and others, we established the Colorado U.S. Route 6 Heritage Corporation to set up a visitor center in Holyoke.

We work closely with the people in Arapahoe, Nebraska to link our efforts to promote heritage tourism. We look forward to placing Historic Route 6 signs and increasing awareness all across Colorado. Looking forward to having you join in this effort.

Mary Tomky,
Chair Advisory Committee

For the past six years Mary was the Executive Director of the Colorado Association. Now as the Chair of the Advisory Committee, she is looking for individuals from across the State who would like to have an active role in the future development of the Colorado Association.

Mary is also the Executive Director of the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and Secretary/Treasurer of the Colorado U.S. Route 6 Heritage Corporation.

Living in a small town she is aware of the need to establish new businesses that can provide employment opportunities for graduating high school and college students. This program would help to preserve our small towns and American Heritage along the Grand Old Highway.
