Indiana Portion of US Route 6

As an intrepid traveler, the journey begins on the Indiana Portion of US Route 6 as it crosses the Indiana state line. You’ll be in good company sharing this same Borman Expressway with I-80 and I-94 through Hammond and Gary until you take State Road 51 (SR 51) at exit 15. After a short two mile jaunt south, you make your turn eastward–this leads to Westville where US 421 will become part of your quest before heading another mile southwards towards both US 31 & 35 – then get ready for five more miles navigating along with fellow adventurer/roadie 33 ’til Ligonier! Thereafter is mostly two lane roads throughout much of Indiana en route to Ohio’s stately borders just east of Butler; previously though prior to completion of The Bormann Expressway — thrill seekers would have taken Ridge Rd instead which still offers segments signed Business Undertaker(kidding…we mean “Business”US6).

Illinois Portion of US Route 6

The Illinois Portion of US Route 6 is a remarkable highway in Illinois, connecting the vibrant downtowns of Oak Forest, Tinley Park, Moline and Joliet – to name just a few. It follows its original routing for much of it’s length while also matching up with I-74and I-80 along the way. Its path skirts around Chicago but unlike US 20 which favors freeways over urban streets; Illinois Portion of US Route 6 offers an authentic journey through some of this Midwest state’s most dynamic towns & cities!

Iowa Portion of US Route 6

Where the prairies meet the rivers, Iowa Portion of US Route 6 enters Iowa at Council Bluffs. This majestic stretch of highway begins its journey across Nebraska by traveling in unison with I‑29 and I‑80 before splitting off to explore rural Pottawattamie County. Along this path lies Oakland where it briefly overtakes US 59 before carrying on eastward until Lewis is reached. Step inside your car… embark on a marvelous adventure along one of America’s longest highways!  Iowa Portion of US Route 6  takes a sharp left turn to Atlantic where it joins US 71 for an exciting journey leading up to I-80. It then rides roughshod with US 169 as far north as Adel, before looping back around Des Moines on Hickman Road and Merle Hay Road – making sure Urbandale is firmly secured in the north while Clive and Windsor Heights hold strong in the south. Finally, Iowa Highway 28 pitches up at 63rd Street just long enough for one last lap before they part ways over Douglas Avenue; leaving you craving more of this wild ride!

Skirting the Des Moines River, US 6 transitions from Douglas Avenue to Euclid Avenue. At northeastern Des Moines’ intersection of US 69 and I-235, it turns onto Hubbell Street for a brief stay in Altoona before meeting up with I‑80 again at its intersections with both US 65 and Moore Road. Continuing east beyond the metro area, this route continues along sidekick Interstate 80 until Newton where their paths diverge: one towards Grinnell on an adventure through Marengo then into picturesque Amana Colonies ending up at Coralville; while other joins forces with Iowa City’s University of Iowa campus near the banks of The Hawkeye State’s famous river -The Iowa River

From Iowa City to the banks of Mississippi, Iowa Portion of US Route 6 takes a scenic southeast journey. It zooms past West Liberty and Wilton before connecting with I-80 for an exciting northwards drive into Davenport. The adventure continues south as drivers hop onto Kimberly Road until veering east at Interstate 74, meandering over bridges towards Illinois’s welcoming embrace on the other side of mighty Father River!

Colorado portion of US Route 6

Colorado portion of US Route 6 is an epic journey that takes intrepid travelers from the Utah border to just east of Avon, weaving in and out of I-70 for some thrilling adventure. Experience a slice of Grand Junction through its Southside as you head into Rifle, then Silt and New Castle before making your way up toward Chacra. After departing Dotsero at the Colorado River’s confluence with Eagle River, US 6 reconnects briefly with I-70 again until Silverthorne where it ventures southward – bypassing Vail Ski Area but still giving you unforgettable views.

US 6 winds its way through Colorado with sensational sights to see. Starting in Clear Creek Valley, it meets I-70 at Loveland Basin Ski Area and travels eastward on the Eisenhower Tunnel’s eastern mouth before taking a scenic spin through the grandiose ravines of Clear Creek Canyon. Onwards from Golden, US 6 meanders south until again crossing paths with I-70, then making its way alongside Lakewood and into Denver via the ever iconic Sixth Avenue Freeway which further reveals an exciting journey ahead full of sharp turns as it heads north onto Interstate 25 before heading back East toward Vasquez Boulevard in Elyra Swansea.

US 6 navigates its way through Commerce City alongside US 85 and briefly follows the path of SH 2 before striking out on its own. The roadway meanders northeast until it joins I-76 for a portion outside Brush, then again continues east across Sterling with I-76 Business at its side. Eventually reaching Nebraska’s border, the final Colorado town along this route is Holyoke.

Utah Portion of US Route 6

The Utah Portion of US Route 6 takes a wild ride through the Great Basin Desert and Wasatch Range! At Delta, it splits from US 50 before venturing towards the historic Tintic and Eureka mining districts. Near Santaquin, travelers will join I-15 for some high speed action to Spanish Fork canyon – that’s where you’ll hop off with US 89 for an incredible trek into Soldier Summit. After cresting those mountains is when things get really interesting as this route makes its way deep down Utah’s coal country – there’s even one final surprise waiting along side of fellow traveler U S 191!

Traveling east from Green River, I-70 and US 50 form a dynamic duo as they wind along the dramatic southern edge of the Book Cliffs. Conjoined with them is US 191 to Crescent Junction – an impressive feat considering this trio continues for miles! An eye-catching visual spectacle in Utah’s breathtaking landscape awaits adventurers who make it all the way through Grand Valley into Colorado.
