New York Portion of US Route 6

The New York Portion of US Route 6 traverses a scenic 79-mile stretch of New York, cutting through Orange and Putnam Counties before ending in Westchester County. Entering from neighboring Pennsylvania with US 209 at Port Jervis, the two routes part ways just north as US 209 takes an northerly route to Kingston while US 6 sweeps across southern NY’s northern suburbs on its way eastward.

US 6 is the road less traveled, but between Goshen and Harriman it takes a more crowded route. It runs concurrent with NY 17 – The Quickway – before splitting at one of New York’s biggest interchanges where US6/NY17 meet I-87 (the Thruway) and NY32. From there, whilst US 6 remains as an express freeway into Harriman State Park to the east, NY17 becomes an open highway heading south.  Zoom down US 6, traveling concurrent with The Quickway (NY 17) from Goshen to Harriman. Here you’ll find one of New York’s largest interchanges where the roads converge at I-87 and NY 32! After that it’s all freeway bliss as you cruise through Harriman State Park – just don’t forget your sunglasses or a jacket if need be. 

Taking a scenic journey along the Hudson, US 6 and US 202 wind through Orange County before entering Westchester. Here they meet up with another old friend in the form of concurrency with US 9! After an adventure full of twists and turns (including access to historic Taconic State Parkway at Shrub Oak), our trips ends just north on Connecticut when we encounter I-84, I-684, and NY 22 smartly perched near Brewster. Pennsylvania Portion of US Route 6

The Pennsylvania Portion of US Route 6 is a scenic 403-mile drive through the beautiful state of Pennsylvania, beginning 20 miles west of Meadville and heading south to an Ohio border crossing. As it continues eastward towards Conneaut Lake on US 322, travelers enjoy spectacular vistas before connecting with US 19 in western Meadville for the journey north to Mill Village where a junction awaits at US 6N—the perfect place to end this amazing road trip!

US 6 sets off from Pennsylvania and strides along the New York-Pennsylvania border, running parallel to it for much of its journey. In Factoryville US 11 takes up a brief co-journey with US 6 until Scranton where they part ways—US 11 heading south out of town while US6 continues eastwardly. Eventually, at Milford reaches another partner in crime: making an alliance with 209 which leads them northeast towards Matamoras crossing over the Delaware River into Port Jervis, NY!

Ohio Portion of US Route 6

Following the Ohio-Indiana border, the Ohio Portion of US Route 6 enters our state in Williams County. While meandering along its remarkable route to Lake Erie, it passes through Edgerton and just south of Bryan before continuing on towards Napoleon and Bowling Green – not forgetting Fremont either! As if that wasn’t enough exploration for one trip alone; after crossing Sandusky Bay at Huron Harbor, this stretch of highway continues east alongside Vermilion’s shoreline. Before long though you can find yourself atop Charles Berry Bridge as it soars over Lorain bringing us ever closer to Cleveland proper where we take a pitstop/detour via Sheffield Lake, Avon Lake ,Bay Village & Rocky River while admiring Clifton Boulevard upon finally reaching The City by the Shore: That is…Lakewood perfecting West Blvd/Edgewater neighborhood right next door too!

The Ohio Portion of US Route 6 follows the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway into Downtown Cleveland, entering downtown by crossing the Detroit-Superior Bridge. US 6 follows Superior Avenue through Public Square and the East Side of Cleveland before turning east onto Euclid Avenue in East Cleveland and Chardon Road in the city of Euclid. US 6 continues eastward through Lake County, Geauga County and finally into Ashtabula County before entering the state of Pennsylvania along the Pymatuning Reservoir causeway.

Indiana Portion of US Route 6

As an intrepid traveler, the journey begins on the Indiana Portion of US Route 6 as it crosses the Indiana state line. You’ll be in good company sharing this same Borman Expressway with I-80 and I-94 through Hammond and Gary until you take State Road 51 (SR 51) at exit 15. After a short two mile jaunt south, you make your turn eastward–this leads to Westville where US 421 will become part of your quest before heading another mile southwards towards both US 31 & 35 – then get ready for five more miles navigating along with fellow adventurer/roadie 33 ’til Ligonier! Thereafter is mostly two lane roads throughout much of Indiana en route to Ohio’s stately borders just east of Butler; previously though prior to completion of The Bormann Expressway — thrill seekers would have taken Ridge Rd instead which still offers segments signed Business Undertaker(kidding…we mean “Business”US6).

Illinois Portion of US Route 6

The Illinois Portion of US Route 6 is a remarkable highway in Illinois, connecting the vibrant downtowns of Oak Forest, Tinley Park, Moline and Joliet – to name just a few. It follows its original routing for much of it’s length while also matching up with I-74and I-80 along the way. Its path skirts around Chicago but unlike US 20 which favors freeways over urban streets; Illinois Portion of US Route 6 offers an authentic journey through some of this Midwest state’s most dynamic towns & cities!
